  1. Welcome
  2. F18 Summer Series
    1. Feedback (+/-) from this year
      1. Bob Merrick – Create a separate New England F18 Class?

Discussion: Not necessary, current set up within NENSA and the national class works fine.

  1. Dino – F18 Master Division

Discussion: Interesting Idea, but need to take it one step at a time.  Some noted that they didn’t feel the F18 fleet was large enough to have a separate master’s championship.  Decision was made to try out how the scoring system might work on the side at the Sakonnet regatta in 2011.  If the handicap system works out then the area will recommend to the national class that it be incorporated in a master regatta.

  1. Todd – NENSA to buy a scale

Discussion: All Agreed

  1. Rex – Measurement during the season

Discussion: Weights for crew and boat will be checked at each event throughout the season.  Rick will continue to be the class measurer so sails, platform, etc can all be measured prior to the North Americans.  He will only perform measurements by appointment only.  Dedicated events for measuring will also be discussed and advertised prior to the beginning of the 2011 sailing season.

  1. Eric – F16s and F18s racing together, being scored the same.

Discussion: There was no opposition to F18s and F16s starting on the same line and racing around the same course.  Fleet was split (5-yay / 6-nay) to having F16 being scored as F18s in regattas.  Discussion circulated around the promotion of the F16 fleet over the F18 fleet but more specifically whether the F16 has an unfair advantage over an F18. It was also brought up that this was a slippery slope to go down since where does one draw the line with other classes racing with the F18s
Decision: More research into the fairness of having the two classes be scored as one is needed.  Verdict is tabled until the spring meeting.

  1. Scott – Gold / Silver Fleets

Discussion: Fleet split around having separate gold and silver fleets.  No decision made

  1. Blair - Better advertising of the fleet. Propose - learn to sail cats day / college sailing demo day / crew message board

Discussion:  All agreed.  A demo day or sorts is needed.  Scheduling conflicts are the biggest hurdle, next to sailor participation. Mike to work on a crew message board.

  1. Ken - Better recognition of others in the fleet at different events (most improved, youngest, etc) - Get gear sponsors to donate things for these awards

Discussion: Majority supported the idea of increasing recognition within the fleet for outstanding performances, etc.
Decision: Fleet prefers individual recognition over the Gold/Silver split.

    1. More regattas? Less Regattas? No discussion due to lack of time.
    2. Dedicated PR person to send out updates to sponsors.
    3. Person finishing 4th at each event will be responsible for writing the regatta report to be posted on NENSA and sent out to the different blogs/sailing news sites.  Regatta report to be completed by noon the following Tuesday at the latest.
    4. Series Sponsorship

Discussion: Everyone acknowledged that a better job must be done keeping sponsors informed.  Sponsors will be sought for next season.

    1. Class Membership
      1. Membership Rankings

Discussion:  Make sure you are a current NAF18 member so you’re regatta results can be counted towards the selection for the 2012 F18 Worlds in Long Beach, CA

      1. 2012 Worlds Selection

Discussion: People will be selected according to NAF18 rankings

      1. Scheduling Regattas to Count
        1. Match Race Event? If so when? Good idea but scheduling is an issue.
        2. Canadian Regattas
          1. (Trois-Rivières - 28-29 of may or 4-5 of june 2011
          2. Quebec - 23-24 of july or 6-7 of august
          3. Sextant Marine (Lake Champlain) - 3-4 of September
          4. Canadian Nationals - not confirm yet but probably in Kingston at the end of august (20-21 or 27-28) 3 days event so not sure yet if it is the monday or friday)

Discussion:  The Fleet will put all Canadian events on the schedule.  Special emphasis will be given to the Canadian F18 Nationals.  The eastern area group liked the weekend of Aug. 27/28 the best for Canadian Nationals. If no Canadian Nationals happen then the Sextant Marine regatta is the next best regatta.
